A Better Possession!
Mr. Roger’s Hood, part 2
Dave Gibbons

Luke 18:18-26
18And a certain ruler questioned Him, saying, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” 19And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good---except God alone. 20You know the commandments, “Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’” 21 “All these things I have kept since I was a boy,” he said. 22When Jesus heard this, He said to him, “You still lack one thing; Sell everything that you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; Then come, follow Me.” 23When he heard this, he became very sad; because he was a man of great rich.” 24 Jesus looked at him and said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” 26Those who heard this asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus replied, “What is impossible with men is possible with God.”

How can we enter into a relationship with God that overflows with grace?

Our Possessions can constrain us from experiencing God, v. 23

The Possession of Religious Experience and Knowledge

The Possession of Material Wealth.

Our Desire to be in Relationship with God Comes Down to What We’re Willing to Give, v. 22

In the same way, any of you who does not give up everything he has cannot be my disciple.”

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sake He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich.” 2 Cor. 8:9

Radically Pursue

How is it possible to surrender everything to God ?

When you know that Christ is a better possession.

“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. 25He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasure of sin for a short time. 26He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value then the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking g ahead to the his reward. 27By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.”
Hebrews 11:24-27
