Religion, What is it Good for? Absolutely Nothin'
Speaker: Darryl Brumfield
Messy Spirituality Part 2
Romans 3:9-12
9) What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. 10) As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; 11) there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God. 12) All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one."
God's assessment of all men is not very flattering; in God's eyes everyone is completely messed up and cannot be propped up through human effort.
To escape the trap of performance-based religion, we must:
Grasp the depth of God's holiness and understand what is God's standard of righteousness.
Acknowledge our depravity, knowing that, without divine intervention we cannot:
Understand God
Seek God
Follow God.
Discover our true worth or fulfill our true purpose.
Unlike religion, a relationship with God is messy, at times. When discouraged remember that,
God changes our condition over time, but he changes our position in a moment.
