Homosexuality, Grace, Servant-hood & the Power of God
Behind Closed Doors Series, Part 7
Speaker: Darryl Brumfield
As Christians, we must understand that God’s word declares that …
Homosexual activity …
Isn’t greater or less than any other sin, unlike men God doesn’t grade on a curve,
Therefore, we must reach down with love rather than look down in ignorance.
Is sin,
Therefore we must always call it what it is, and never compromise truth in the name of love.
Grace & works can never be mixed; however, Grace and Servant-hood can never be separated
Servant-hood is not about how we feel, its about obedience, diligence and complete surrender,
including the surrendering of our flawed bodies to God that he might be glorified through us.
The Power of God is what makes Servant-hood possible, and we can only experience God’s power through relationship.
In the end, it’s about an expression of love toward God rather than a suppression of sensual desire.
Romans 1:26-32
26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. 28Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. 29They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32Although they know God's righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.
Romans 3:9-10,23
9 What shall we conclude then? Are we any better ? Not at all! We have already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. 10As it is written: "There is no one righteous, not even one; 23for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.
Romans 1:1;
1 Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle and set apart for the gospel of God--
Romans 6:1-2,15,20-22
1 What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 15What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 20When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. 21What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! 22But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.
Romans 8:3-4
3 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit.
Galations 5:16
16 So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.
