The Truth About Ruth: Misfit by Choice
Misfit Series: Part 3
Speaker: Michelle Jones
Ruth 1:15-17 (NLT)
“See,” Naomi said to [Ruth], “Your sister-in-law has gone back to her people and to her gods. You should do the same.” But Ruth replied, “Don’t ask me to leave you and turn back. I will go wherever you go and live wherever you live. Your people will be my people, and your God will be my God. I will die where you die and will be buried there. May the Lord punish me severely if I allow anything but death to separate us!”
The Explicit Choice : MISFIT over “ME FIRST!”
The Implicit Consequences :
- RESPONSIBILITY over RELIEF
Taking care of our rest is God’s responsibility and taking care of our responsibility is God’s rest.
Matt. 11:28-30: Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you…For my yoke fits perfectly, and the burden I give you is light.”
Letdowns, putdowns, and setbacks set you up to receive God’s amazing grace.
1 Peter 5:5b: God sets himself against the proud, but he shows favor to the humble.
- BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS over BLINDING LIGHT
“Don’t play what you see. Play what you don’t see.”
–Miles Davis
The Expressed Promise :
It ain’t over ‘til it’s ALL GOOD.
